ANNE MURRAY. POETRY, VIDEO, INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTIST.
Anne Murray is an American and Irish artist living in Europe. Her work delves into the politics of the individual and the constant shift of perspectives that determine our cultural and social identity. Her project at Jiwar, “Pa amb Tomàquet”, is a personification of the Catalan language emerging as a nation. Her work is an investigation into the nature of the shifting perspective of the Catalan language and its integral part in creating identity here in Catalunya, and how that is represented not only through language as tangible words, but as ephemeral images that relate to the works of some of the great Catalan artists in history.
Murray has been creating projects related to specific cultures as residencies not only here in Cataluyna, but also in Turkey, France, Italy and other parts of Spain. She works mainly in photography and video, creating video poems with her original poetry combined with the voice of the people in various places.
Murray obtained her BFA in Paris at Parsons School of Design and her MFA and MS in Art History in New York City at Pratt Institute. Her work is in both private and public collections including the White House Permanent Collection in Washington D.C. and the New York Public Library Collection of Prints and Photographs on 42nd street. She has exhibited globally in Shanghai, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Los Angeles and various other cities around the world.
