Dana Zed. New artist in residence.

Dana Zed is an artist of several mediums. Her digital pictures began while commuting between Oakland and San Francisco, California on the subway. These are drawn quickly. The work inspired a blog called betweenstops.com where text and pictures combine. After the year of commuter drawing, Dana became artist in residence at The de Young Museum where she drew 100 people and taught people to draw people who in turn taught people the same.

The portraits have personalities of their own. They result from Dana Zed’s interaction with the one being drawn. Dana draws and paints people on the IPAD . She talks to people when they are being drawn. The result is a picture and a story. The painting may not resemble the outward appearance so much as it does an essence beneath the surface.
Dana Zed also works extensively with glass and traditional drawing and painting materials.
