Deirdre O’Mahony is an artist, writer and lecturer at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media, GMIT, Galway. She completed a PhD through practice-based research at the University of Brighton in 2012. Her ongoing research is focused on the relationship between politics, ecology and activism within the rural public sphere and public art projects include SPUD the Big Dig at the Great Famine Museum, Strokestown, Roscommon curated by Linda Shevlin and a SPUD research residency for the Workhouse Union Callan, Co.Kilkenny curated by Hollie Kerens and Rosie Lynch. Other public projects include Abandoned Clare, 2011 and X-PO and Cross Land. She has received numerous Irish Arts Council, Visual Arts Bursary, Project and Travel Awards and international fellowships including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation award.
