Mina Nasr is the artist invited by Jiwar Creació i Societat to show his work in the city of Barcelona. The barcelona residence, in a joint project developed since 2012 with the Africa Center, is an artist of Egyptian origin with the aim of creating a space where develope his work and establish links with the city and the local artists; Fostering the opening of a way of dialogue between a non-Western imaginary creator and the urban red itself with all that implies. During his stay in Barcelona, Nasr will present a facility in the exposition in the Gràcia district exhibition hall from July 2 to 15, sharing space with XABACA, a three-tier project Jiwar- Fundació Al Fanar – Novact , Which took place during the month of March 2017, with Palestinian singer-songwriter Haya Zaatry, Lebanese visual artist Fatima Mortada, Moroccan filmmakers Houda Lakhdar and Sofia Aissaoui and Tunisian illustrator Farah Ben Mansour.

Despite his training as a sculptor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Helwan (Cairo, Egypt), Nasr works through graphics, computer facilities and drawings, always referring to the contrast and duality of sculpture expressed through lights and shadows. With his work, the Egyptian artist seeks to tell the changes experienced by society due to socio-political event. His work is a chronicle and a social critic strongly influenced by two events that have marked the current situation of his country: The Arab Spring and the Egyptian Revolution. As an artist, his objective has been to express his individuality in front of society, dealing with problems we face in our daily life, directly related to the concepts of freedom and oppression. Consequently, the reflection on the human condition is very present in the work of Nasr, treated from the body’s own structure and on how it relates to its environment, that is, to the social fabric that is the city, emphasizing the expression of the figure depending on the situation in which you are either sitting in the subway or queuing to vote. The work of Mina Nasr is able to open a space for dialogue with her environment through the criticism and reflection she promotes in the public spaces where she shows her work. Located in one of the most emblematic streets of the district of Gràcia, the Jiwar Creació i Societat Association was born in 2011 as a residence of artists offering a new space of creation and reflection. Its projects focus in the interlocution with the urban environment. Under this pretext, Jiwar offers the necessary bridges to multiple professionals from all over the world and all artistic or social fields to establish a dialogue with the city and influence issues related to urban space.
