Nidaa Aboulhosn is a Lebanese-American artist working in photography, video and animation. In her photographic work, she creates metaphor-driven image sequences to evoke a tangential mode of perception. Extracting fragments from everyday life in different locales, she searches for the magical amid the dismal, at times filtering the “real” through the lens of the absurd and humorous. Her recent project, “Signals of a Sun”, is a quest for answers. It muses upon dreamscapes and myth. The work stems from and gravitates towards a symbolic search for home. The pictures were made in Mexico and Lebanon. She is currently exploring images and text that ruminate on the margins of fact and fiction. She imagines her work with photographic language to be the visual equivalent of creative nonfiction or fantasy reality. Nidaa is currently Assistant Professor of Photography at Ithaca College in New York, and divides her time between Beirut and New York.
