Performance-1

Today we are dealing with a serious climatic chaos. Floods, violent storms, drought, conflicts, caused by El Nino global warming are more and more frequent around the Horn of Africa. As reported by FSNWG in March 2016, approximately 19,5 million people are facing critical climatic conditions and having to deal with consequent emergency situations linked to food production and demand.
The arctic villages are having to relocate due to the melting permafrost; African farmers find their traditional migration routes and livestock threatened by drought; in the South American rainforest, people face unprecedented incidences of wild fires.
The Ethiopian Tamrat Gezahegne, currently artist in residence at Jiwar Creation and Society Barcelona, investigates social and environmental topics and issues, paying attention to the running transformations and changes at a worldwide level.
As bearer of his African cultural values and mediator with the European World, Tamrat’s work looks to present the viewpoint of indigenous people in relation to the global warming phenomeno, describing the abundant contribution they bring to the preservation of a healthy climate balance on our planet.
On the one hand Indigenous people live close to nature and try to preserve it yeton the other hand, they are the most exposed victims to climatic changes. Despite the indegenous reality being far from our Western Culture, we shouldn’t forget that we are all creatures living on Earth, and we are all vulnerable to its changes.
His new performance will take place on Saturday 28th of May at Jiwar.
