Mona Dam is a visual artist based in Aarhus, Denmark. She has a MFA from the Art Academy of Aarhus in painting. Since 1985 she has exhibited extensively in art galleries and showrooms in Denmark and internationally. Her paintings are often inspired by ancient cultures, especially fragments found in excavations around the Mediterranean. During the composition process, the fragments become part of a new order and are given a different meaning. Mona Dam frequently visits cities and regions in Europe to photograph and research the ornamentation and patterns of historical buildings affected by time and history. The surface of the paintings forms fragments of façade and space letting the eyes move in intuitive imaginations and configurations.
