Sameer Farooq was originally trained as a cultural anthropologist at McGill University in Montreal, and pursued visual art/design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Sameer currently resides between Toronto, ON and Providence, RI (USA) where he is completing his MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design. He is co-founder of the documentary film collective Smoke Signal Projects committed to illuminating underrepresented communities through unique and eye-opening filmmaking. Sameer has exhibited and participated in a number of film festivals in Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Serbia & Montenegro, and China.
